Most motorists faced this common problem when exiting typical HDB carparks in Singapore.. the gantry arm simply won’t lift up, and NO ONE is answering the calls at the carpark support hotline!!!
So what can you do when you are STUCK in at HDB carpark?

Of course, the right thing to do when facing problems at any HDBcarpark is to press the CALL Button at the gantry panel, located at both the exits and entrances of all carparks, and WAIT patiently…
So what if there is no one answering your call?

In the past, most HDB carpark have gantry barrier arms that are secured by plastic cable ties.. (*Some HDD carparks are still having this…OMG!)
When motorists are unable to find anyone to help when the gantry arm is not lifting up (for whatever reasons), they will simply push the barrier arms and exit, causing permanent damages, and may even attracts serious liabilities etc.
Not only that, with such rare occurrence, many opportunists will quickly rush to the exit, remove their cashcard and exit the carpark, evading carpark charges..

With the recent upgrade done at many HDB carparks, most motorists by now should be able to spot the new gantry barrier arm installed at most HDB carparks in Singapore..
The new barrier arms comes a sleek spring-adapted hinge mechanism, which will allows pushing of the barrier arm to allow vehicles to pass through with minimum damages etc.

Example, if no one is answering your support calls after a long long time, with a slight push, the barrier arm will swing outwards swiftly, allowing your vehicle to exit with minimum damage to both the barrier arm and the vehicle as well..
Although this may sound like a trick to evade parking fees, but don’t forget there are still CCTV cameras (lots of them at the gantry area!) and also ERP-like wireless sensors that are reading your in-vehicle (ERP) unit of your vehicle! So beware, do not abuse this system!
