Chinatown CNY Vicious-looking Dog 2018 and Dirty Pig 2019

Anyone still can recall the 2018 Chinese New Year Light-up for Chinatown? 

2018 marks the year of the Dog, and the focus of the CNY display was on the Dog zodiac.  The intention was to highlight the dog as an epitome of family bonds.  However, the final display had drew heavy criticisms from the public as vicious-looking and even wolf-like.

But as the trend continues, we get this for 2019 Chinatown CNY light-up…

Both displays were designed by students from Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD).  Perhaps the perception of “cute” and being auspicious for CNY is tab different from the eyes of youngster nowadays……
